Experiences are better shared
Showcasing a new standard in accessibility for live entertainment
Crystal Palace Football Club, GiveVision and Shared Access have teamed up to provide visually impaired football fans with smart headsets that will transform their match day viewing experience.
A first for the Premier League, this is made possible by GiveVision’s assistive technology and the provision of a private 5G network by Shared Access inside the Selhurst Park stadium.
This experience is available to both home and away visually impaired fans at Selhurst Park.
How does it work?
How does it work?
A GiveVision headset allows someone with severe sight loss to watch live sport like never before.
GiveVision’s patented vision enhancement system modulates a feed from the TV cameras filming the event into a bright, sharp stereoscopic light, projected via the headset to the working part of the retina. This stimulates individuals’ remaining vision to enable them to see the details more clearly and quite literally see the game in real-time.
The speed of the 5G connection being used to stream the TV feed allows users to watch without the lag of a normal broadcast stream. This enables them to witness a goal being scored (or missed) fast enough to be a part of the crowd reaction and the live experience, rather than hearing a reaction and finding out the reason for it several seconds later.
The private 5G network is available throughout the stadium, which means that fans can sit in their regular seat with friends and family, rather than be allocated to a particular zone.
Meet the team behind the technologies
GiveVision is a not-for-dividend company founded in 2014 with the aim of developing assistive technologies that can transform the lives of people with severe sight impairments.
Having spent over a decade developing low vision systems for people living with sight loss, GiveVision founders realised there was a massive gap in accessibility for live sporting events.
One in 30 people in the UK have some form of sight loss. It’s fair to say that most football clubs have no idea of the number of fans they have with sight loss, because many of them simply don’t attend games.
Our mission is to make GiveVision a standard offering at every stadium. It’s time to set a new standard in accessibility for live entertainment…
Shared Access have been working with Crystal Palace for over five years, so when the club approached them to help find a way to deploy the incredible GiveVision technology across their stadium, they leapt at the chance, designing and installing a private 5G network at Selhurst Park. Although private 5G networks are in their infancy, Shared Access firmly believe that partnering with Crystal Palace to stimulate and challenge the role of technology inside sport is the very best way to innovate in this area.
As a club, Crystal Palace FC are proud to be inclusive and want everyone to enjoy the unique experience of a match day at Selhurst Park. They have adopted the GiveVision technology as an innovative way to advance their match day offering which builds on their ongoing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion work throughout the club and across their workforce, partner and worldwide community. To accompany the deployment of GiveVision and their work with Shared Access, they are also the first Premier League club to deploy a private 5G network to provide a seamless experience for GiveVision users.
